Janet Miner - biography

Janet Miner was born and raised in San Diego, California. Her parents Nancy and Everett Miner instilled core values of kindness, loyalty and responsibility into all their children, including Janet, her twin sister Ellen and brother Mark. Janet’s love of music and pop culture led her pursue a career in entertainment.


“When I was in my high school AP US History class, I first learned about the injustices done to the indigenous people of America and so many others. This was not the sanitized version I had been taught in grade school. This knowledge opened my eyes and I became determined to uplift minority voices where I could. I believe in being an ally, even when it’s not a popular choice,” said Janet.


She attended Pomona College in Claremont, California. During her undergraduate years, she worked as a DJ at KSPC-FM, hosting a rock radio show, and she studied acting. “Working in a radio station taught me valuable lessons in music marketing. Working as an actor gave me an appreciation for the craft and the importance of storytelling,” she added.


After graduating, Janet relocated to Hollywood and worked in a variety of behind-the-scenes entertainment industry jobs. From the typist pool to a literary agent’s office to finally landing a demanding position at MCA Records, Janet was able to build friendships and gain valuable skills to promote her client – Arigon Starr.


After working together for a number of years, Janet and Arigon formed Wacky Productions Unlimited, a company that would find them working in the music business, theater world and comic books. As founder of Wacky Productions Unlimited, Janet handles all legal, financial and administrative activities and is the editor of Arigon Starr's graphic novel series Super Indian. She executive produced four award-winning albums for Ms. Starr, guiding the projects from recording to final release. Additionally, she co-produced The Red Road, Starr’s acclaimed one-woman theatrical show that toured internationally and was later adapted as an audio theater special.


Janet had her hands full working as Wacky’s CEO, while holding down her corporate entertainment industry job. After moving from MCA Records, she worked with BMG Music, then co-founded RightSpring.com, an e-business streamlining the process of searching, licensing and digitally delivering music to professional users.


Currently, Janet serves as the Vice President of Global Administration, Compliance & Strategic Projects at Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG). Previously, her roles at UMPG included VP, Global Film & TV administration, lending guidance and Film & TV expertise to UMP's global administration teams. She also headed Global Copyright for UMPG and was a business lead in the company's successful conversion to a new core administration system. She administered Film & TV implementation for US Copyright and led the team integrating BMG’s US & Canada catalog into UMPG’s operations. When at BMG Music Publishing, she oversaw international administration operations for the Americas and Asia.


Janet holds a B.A. in English Literature from Pomona College.
